Day trips from Darjeeling

Towns and ridges within a day of Darjeeling, ordered by road distance from the hotel. Shared jeeps for most of these leave from the Club Side motor stand directly below Hotel Charlie.

19.1 km by roadby road

Sukhiapokhri

A small ridge town on the road towards the Nepal border, usually passed through on the way to Manebhanjang and the Singalila ridge.

20.6 km by roadby road

Takdah

A former British cantonment among tea gardens, with colonial bungalows and an orchid centre. Quiet, and usually combined with Tinchuley.

27.3 km by roadby road

Tinchuley

A small organic-farming village on a ridge above the Rangeet, known for its viewpoint over the river valley.

30.4 km by roadby road

Kurseong

The town of the white orchid, on the toy train line below Darjeeling. Warmer, less crowded, and surrounded by some of the district's oldest tea estates.

45.1 km by roadby road

Mirik

Built around Sumendu Lake, with a footbridge across it and a road ringing the water. Lower and warmer than Darjeeling; a common half-day out.

51.2 km by roadby road

Kalimpong

A hill town across the Teesta with a different character to Darjeeling — flower nurseries, monasteries and a long trading history with Tibet.

97.7 km by roadby road

Gangtok, Sikkim

The Sikkim capital, over the state border. Long as a day trip and better with a night.

Sikkim entry rules differ from West Bengal, and Indian and foreign nationals are treated differently. Check current permit requirements before travelling.

[DISTANCE TO VERIFY]

Sandakphu and the Singalila ridge

The highest point in West Bengal, walked or driven from Manebhanjang along the Singalila ridge, with Everest and Kanchenjunga both visible from the top. A multi-day trip, not a day out.

No road distance published: the access is a 4WD track that routing engines cannot follow, and they return a 200 km detour through the plains instead. The property should supply the usual Manebhanjang figure.

Road distances measured 2026-09-05. OSRM's duration model is calibrated for flat roads and is roughly three times optimistic on Darjeeling's hill roads — it predicted 59 minutes for Bagdogra, which independent sources put at 3 to 4 hours. Drive times are therefore published only where corroborated separately.
